JOHNY TAY

BIOGRAPHY

Johny Tay has been fascinated by sequential art since before he learned the alphabet. Oddly, he has never been an avid comic reader; it's the format of sequential art and its untapped potential that captivates him. By the time he was 12 years-old, he had single-handedly made over a hundred rudimentary comic books. He even received a “special achievement award” for this feat from his school.

In 2003, he self-published his first title for the public, Anima. Self-publishing was much harder back then; there was no print-on-demand technology and book distributors were unwilling to talk directly to authors. Nevertheless, Johny managed to get his books into leading bookstores and the webcomic version of Anima won 3 international web design awards. Since then, he has created and published an eclectic collection of titles. His work has been accepted and published for global audiences on leading platforms such as Comixology, Lezhin Comics, and select US book publishers.

Each of his new titles is always experimental, being quite different from the last. There is only one goal for all of Johny’s work: To tell stories that any reader from any era can connect with. For his more recent work, Johny has focused on being a producer, writer, and business manager. In doing so, he had the privilege of working with great artistic talents from Singapore and across the world.

Johny retired from creating new works in 2021.
